HiRes Fidelity 120TM is a new sound processing option designed to improve hearing in the most challenging listening environments, such as in noisy restaurants or on telephones and to enhance your appreciation of music!
This breakthrough innovation represents an industry-first to use current steering technology to increase spectral resolution from as few as 12 to 22 spectral bands to as many as 120 spectral bands. Current steering is only available in the Harmony™ HiResolution(R) Bionic Ear System*.
Historically, the number of electrodes in a system has defined the number of spectral bands of stimulation. Therefore, the number of spectral bands of resolution was limited to the maximum number of electrodes because there is only one power source for all the electrodes. HiResolution Sound, has a power source for each electrode, offering the ability to create more spectral bands than the number of electrodes. Therefore, when all 16 electrodes are enabled, 120 spectral bands may be delivered—that is 15 electrode pairs multiplied by 8 spectral bands equals 120. The increased spectral resolution, in combination with the fine temporal resolution already implemented in HiRes is designed to lead to better speech perception in noise and improved music appreciation.
