Troubleshooting
Platinum Series (PSP)-Body-Worn Sound Processor
If there are problems with your system, check the following:
- Visually inspect the equipment.
- Is the battery in place?
- Is the headpiece cable twisted, frayed, or broken?
- Is the headpiece cracked?
- If something appears broken, use your spare equipment to complete troubleshooting.
- Make sure the processor is set on the correct program.
- Are the volume and sensitivity set appropriately?
- Change the battery. You can use a rechargeable battery or the AA Battery Pack. The AA Battery Pack is a good option to have available for the classroom.
Here are some specific situations and suggestions for troubleshooting:
Problem
Recipient Cannot Hear
Action
- Make sure Sound Processor is on.
- Check volume and sensitivity settings to ensure they are correct.
- Check LED to make sure it is flashing green to loud sound.
- Replace the Battery with backup rechargeable battery or AA Battery Pack.
- Replace the Cable.
- Check Signal with Microphone Tester.
- Replace the Headpiece.
- Contact the programming center for further troubleshooting.
Problem
LED is not blinking or is blinking only once
Action
- Replace Battery with AA Battery Pack.
- Clean Battery contacts with an alcohol swab.
Problem
Red LED continuously blinks at one-second intervals and/or audible alarm (if activated) sounds at one second intervals.
Action
- Check signal with Microphone Tester.
- Replace the Cable.
- Replace the Headpiece.
- Contact the programming center for further troubleshooting.
Problem
Green LED does not illuminate to loud speech close to microphone.
Action
- Make sure Sound Processor is on.
- Check volume and sensitivity settings to ensure they are correct.
- Replace Battery with AA Battery Pack.
- Check signal with Microphone Tester.
- Plug in Auxiliary Microphone. If LED lights, than replace the child’s headpiece.
- Replace the Headpiece.
- Contact the programming center for further troubleshooting.
Problem
Recipient reports of hearing sounds that are distorted or static.
Action
- Ensure cable is not damaged (kinked or frayed) and inserted into Sound Processor and Headpiece securely.
- Try an alternative program.
- Listen for static with Microphone Tester.
- Replace the Cable.
- Insert Auxiliary Microphone to see if this eliminates static.
- Replace the Headpiece.
- Contact the programming center for further troubleshooting.
